The Fact about the Mercury Inside LCD Products

One argument that manufacturers of plasma televisions are making about the LCD display module manufacturing industry is their use of mercury in LCD products. This has caused concerns from the public, especially from the mothers who are worried for the health of their children who watch movies and programs from their LCD flat screen television panels.

As we all know, mercury is one of the elements found on Earth. The existence of Mercury in nature plays vital role in many natural processes, just like other element compounds. And just like other chemical compounds here on Earth, Mercury has both beneficial and non-beneficial uses. When used improperly, Mercury can cause harm to animals and human beings alike. The cases of Mercury poisoning reported in the past have caused the public to be concerned on the possibility that using products that contain Mercury, like LCD modules, can result to poisoning as well. Mercury poisoning can cause damage to the nervous system, liver and other parts of the body. Just like the fluorescent lights we use at home, LCD screens use mercury vapor by electrically energizing it to generate visible light. Yet, consumers need not to be afraid of using LCD monitors or television panels as the LCD products use only a small amount of Mercury. In addition to this, the Mercury contained inside the LCD products never comes in contact with the user, making mercury poisoning an unlikely outcome when using LCD products.

Moreover, the public is given enough warning about the materials and components used in electrical products such as LCD monitors to educate them on how to properly maintain and use the device.
