Online Education: An Option for Students with Disabilities

Enrolling in an online college may not be the best choice for everyone but more and more students are now thriving in an online education environment due to the many advantages online education brings them.

A student with a physical disability who may find it quite difficult to attend traditional classes can benefit from some of the many advantages of online education. By enrolling in an online college, he can conveniently take classes and learn right at the comfort of his own home where he can study at his own pace. Thus he won’t have to face the challenges and frustrations of dealing with the daily task of preparing to go to school such as waking up early, getting dressed and commuting.

For some students with physical disabilities such as an amputated leg or an arm, hearing impairment and poor eyesight, attending traditional classes at brick and mortar universities can be a good source of discrimination, teasing and unneeded pity from those people who do not fully understand their situation. Thus, most of the time, being in the same class with other student who don’t have physical disabilities may cause them lower self esteem which can greatly affect their quality of life. Enrolling in an online college where they can learn at home without having to face many insensitive and discriminating individuals can help lessen the emotional trauma brought by their disability.
